Mokapu Beach 7-16-2023

Posting a day late. Yesterday was a weird day. 🙂

I did 2 dives, but have no pictures from the first one, which was my first dive from Cove Beach Park to Aloha Reef. It is shallow for a long way out and is a popular surf spot, so not the best entry/exit, but it was nice and calm so no problems yesterday. I did find some very nice reef in about 30-50 feet of water. I did not find the fabled “Aloha” sign made out of PVC pipes with coral growing on them, but apparently Aloha Reef is a very large reef that goes from Ma’alaea to Wailea, and I have no idea where that Aloha sign is. In any case, it was a nice dive but I did not catch any good subject matter in an appealing way, so no photos.

For the second dive I went to old standby Ulua Beach, but scooted over to the reef on the Mokapu side to my favorite antler coral heads. Ran into a huge Horned Helmet in the sand on the way, and actually managed a decent photo of the tiny and endemic Eva Fang Blenny.

But the weird part was when I got back to my car after the 2nd dive and realized I did not have my car key. It is either lost in the ocean, or is locked in the car. In either case, I am stuck… or so I think. I realize my Apple Watch Ultra is cellular connected, so I can message and call right from my watch! So I message my wife who was getting off for lunch in an hour or so and she was able to go home, get my spare key and bring it to me. Thank you Rosa, I love you! It did involve sitting in the parking lot twiddling my thumbs for half an hour. Couldn’t read or go through pictures: glasses locked in car. LOL. As it turned out, the key was locked in the trunk. I forgot to attach it to my dive suit. Oh well. At least I think I got some decent pictures. I hope you enjoy!
